![]() Anyway it's pretty much always a slow leak just check the level every now and then and top up when needed. I ignored my first leak for like a year because same as you I didn't trust the dealership (ended up switching dealerships but long story). Just buy a bottle of pre-mixed VW coolant from the dealer (or online) so you're never stranded. More traditional designs were working too well, so why not change it to something that leaks on a brand new car? I guess someone in Deutchland thought it was a good idea. This idea of having a plastic module bolted to the side of the engine, with a small belt to drive the pump, is somewhat…unique. More often the water pump is driven by the timing belt, or a fan belt. ![]() I haven’t seen anything quite like that on any other engine. Now that I see the thermostat/water pump module, I’m not surprised it leaks. John Deere, Kubota, Toro, stuff like that.) (I work on agricultural stuff mostly, not cars, at work. ![]() I have enough fun at work that I don’t need to look for excuses to fix things at home. I just wasn’t all that familiar with this car because I hardly open the hood. I work as a mechanic, so I can fix this myself easily. My warranty is still good until May of next year, so I have time to decide if I want to let the dealer monkey around with it. I’m going to keep an eye on the level for now, and see what happens. ![]() Do I want to hand over my Golf R to them? No, not really, even if it means a free repair. I’ve had a few VWs and they usually come back from the dealer with missing screws, broken plastic clips, damaged belly pan, etc. My experience with VW dealers is that they aren’t very good at fixing things and it’s a realistic possibility that they might break something. No steam, or any signs of leakage, even if I look around with a flashlight at the belly pan. There is a faint smell of coolant, but I can’t see anything. So I drove around a bit today, and then smelled under the hood. ![]()
